Bat-Shaped BBQ Chicken Wings
Course Appetizer
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Large bowl
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wingettes (flats)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place the chicken wingettes in a large bowl. Add the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss until each piece is evenly coated.
  • Arrange the wingettes in a single layer on the baking sheet, spreading the ends apart so they resemble bat wings once cooked.
  • Bake for 35 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and brush both sides of each wingette generously with barbecue sauce.
  • Return the wings to the oven for 10 more minutes until the sauce is set and the edges are slightly crisp.
  • Let the wings rest for 5 minutes before transferring to a serving platter.

Notes

Arrange the wings in a loose circle on a dark platter so the spread-out shapes stand out. If you want a smokier flavor, swap the smoked paprika for an extra ½ teaspoon of chipotle powder. Leftovers keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat best in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes to restore crispness.
