Small Plate
- 8 ounces tequila
- 4 ounces fresh lime juice
- 2 ounces orange liqueur
- 1 teaspoon activated charcoal powder
- 2 ounces agave syrup
- Ice cubes
- Coarse black salt for rims
- Lime wedges for garnish
Rub a lime wedge around the rim of four glasses and dip each rim into a small plate of coarse black salt to coat.
Fill a cocktail shaker with the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, activated charcoal powder, agave syrup, and a generous handful of ice cubes.
Shake the mixture hard for 15 seconds until the shaker feels cold and the charcoal is fully blended into the liquid.
Fill the prepared glasses with fresh ice cubes and strain the margarita mixture evenly into each glass.
Add a lime wedge to the rim of each glass before serving.
Add the charcoal in small amounts and taste as you mix if you want a deeper black shade without overpowering the citrus. Rim the glasses ahead of time so you can shake and pour drinks quickly once guests arrive. Skip the black salt if you prefer a simpler presentation and use plain lime wedges instead.
