Blood Orange Mezcal Margarita
Course Drink
Cuisine Mexican
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Citrus juicer
  • Margarita glasses

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces mezcal
  • 4 ounces fresh blood orange juice
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 2 ounces orange liqueur
  • 1 ounce agave syrup
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • Ice cubes
  • Blood orange slices, for garnish

Instructions

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass and dip the rims into the kosher salt to coat them evenly.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  • Pour the mezcal, blood orange juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup into the shaker.
  • Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the mixture is well chilled.
  • Strain the drink into the prepared glasses filled with fresh ice.
  • Add a blood orange slice to the rim of each glass before serving.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed blood orange juice for the richest color and flavor. If the drink tastes too tart, add a little more agave syrup and give it one extra shake. The salt rim helps cut the smokiness of the mezcal, but you can skip it if you prefer a sweeter sip.
