Course Main Course
Cuisine Italian
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Oven
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared pizza dough (12-inch)
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 8 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 8 black olives
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 475°F and place the pizza dough on a baking sheet.
  • Spread the marinara sauce evenly across the dough, leaving a small border around the edge.
  • Lay the mozzarella slices in two rows of four to create eye shapes.
  • Press one black olive into the center of each mozzarella slice to form pupils.
  • Tuck halved cherry tomatoes around the cheese to add color and fill the pizza.
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the top and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese has softened.
  • Remove from the oven, scatter the basil leaves over the pizza, and drizzle the balsamic glaze in thin lines across the eyes to create the bloodshot effect.

Notes

Let the pizza rest for two minutes after baking so the balsamic glaze sets slightly and does not run. Slice the olives in half if you want larger pupils. Leftovers reheat best in a 350°F oven for five minutes to keep the crust crisp.
