Caramel Apple Popcorn Balls
Course Snack
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Medium saucepan
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 8 cups popped popcorn
  • ¾ cup chopped dried apples
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Place the popped popcorn and chopped dried apples in a large bowl and set aside.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add the brown sugar, corn syrup, cinnamon, and salt to the saucepan. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the hot caramel mixture over the popcorn and apples. Stir quickly until everything is evenly coated.
  • Let the mixture cool for 2 minutes until it is safe to handle but still pliable.
  • Lightly grease your hands and shape the mixture into 4 balls. Place each ball on a sheet of parchment paper to set.

Notes

Work fast once the caramel is poured because the mixture firms up quickly. If the balls feel too sticky while shaping, lightly dampen your hands with water. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days to keep the popcorn crisp.
