Frankenstein Cocoa Rice Krispie Treats
Course Dessert
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • Mixing spoon
  • 8x8 pan

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 4-5 drops green food coloring
  • 8 candy eyes
  • 8 small pretzel sticks

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir until fully melted and smooth.
  • Stir in the cocoa powder until it is evenly mixed into the marshmallow base.
  • Add the green food coloring a drop at a time, stirring until the mixture reaches a consistent green shade.
  • Remove the pan from heat and quickly fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until every piece is coated.
  • Press the mixture into a greased 8x8 pan or shape it by hand into four rectangular bars while it is still warm.
  • While the bars are still soft, press two candy eyes onto each one and insert two pretzel sticks on the sides to look like bolts.
  • Let the treats cool at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Press the mixture firmly into the pan so the bars hold their rectangular shape once cut. If the mixture starts to stiffen while you add the eyes and pretzels, warm your hands slightly or use a dab of butter on your fingers to make placement easier. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days to keep the cereal crisp.
