Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats
Course Snack
Cuisine American
Large saucepan
Wooden spoon
8x8 baking dish
Microwave-safe bowl
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Green food coloring
- 8 candy eyes
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir until fully melted and smooth.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in several drops of green food coloring until the mixture reaches a bright green shade.
Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until every piece is coated evenly.
Press the mixture into a greased 8x8 baking dish and let it cool for 10 minutes until it firms up slightly.
Cut the cooled treats into four rectangles. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second bursts, stirring between each.
Use the melted chocolate to attach two candy eyes to each rectangle and to draw a hairline across the top and two small bolts on the sides.
Shape the rectangles while the mixture is still warm so the edges stay neat. If the chocolate starts to set too quickly during decorating, warm it again for a few seconds. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days to keep the texture chewy.
