Haunted Hot Cocoa with Marshmallow Ghosts
Course Drink
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Mugs

Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 large marshmallows
  • 16 mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Pour the milk into a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat until it is hot but not boiling.
  • Whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until both dissolve and the mixture looks smooth.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Place two large marshmallows into each mug to form the ghosts.
  • Press two mini chocolate chips into each marshmallow to create eyes.
  • Pour the hot cocoa into the mugs and serve right away so the ghosts stay on top.

Notes

Make the marshmallow ghosts ahead on a plate so they are ready to drop into the mugs. If the cocoa cools too much before serving, warm it gently without boiling to keep the texture creamy. Skip stirring the ghosts into the drink so they continue to float.
