Jack-o'-Lantern Filled Rice Krispie Treats
Course Dessert
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • Mixing spoon
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • Orange gel food coloring
  • 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread
  • Black decorating icing

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until fully melted and smooth.
  • Remove the pan from heat and stir in several drops of orange gel food coloring until the mixture reaches a bright pumpkin shade.
  • Add the Rice Krispies cereal and mix quickly until every piece is coated.
  • Scoop out about one-quarter of the warm mixture and press it into a flat round on a sheet of parchment paper. Spoon a tablespoon of chocolate hazelnut spread into the center.
  • Cover the filling with another portion of the mixture and gently press the edges together to seal. Shape the whole piece into a small pumpkin form. Repeat with the remaining mixture to make four treats total.
  • Once the treats cool and set, use black decorating icing to draw jack-o'-lantern faces on the front of each one.

Notes

Press the mixture firmly when sealing the filling so it stays inside during shaping. If the cereal mixture cools too fast, warm it briefly over low heat to make forming easier. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
