Course Main Course
Cuisine Italian
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3 orange bell peppers
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 475 degrees and place a baking sheet inside to heat.
  • Toss the orange bell peppers with 1 tablespoon olive oil and the salt. Place them on a separate baking sheet and roast for 20 minutes until the skins start to blister.
  • Remove the peppers from the oven, let them cool slightly, then slice them into strips.
  • Roll the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle on parchment paper. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough and top with the shredded mozzarella.
  • Arrange the roasted pepper strips on the cheese to form a jack-o’-lantern face, using the black olive slices for eyes and mouth details.
  • Drizzle the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over the top. Slide the pizza onto the hot baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese bubbles.

Notes

Slice the roasted peppers while they are still warm so they lay flat and hold the face shape better. If the peppers feel too sweet, add an extra pinch of salt before arranging them. Leftovers reheat well in a 350-degree oven for 8 minutes to keep the crust crisp.
