Mulled Red Wine Berry Potion
Course Drink
Cuisine American
Large saucepan
Wooden spoon
Fine mesh strainer
Ladle
- 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine
- 1 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 whole cloves
- 2 star anise pods
- Orange slices for garnish
Pour the red wine into a large saucepan and add the frozen mixed berries, sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise pods.
Place the pan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar dissolves completely.
Bring the mixture to a low simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook for 15 minutes without boiling.
Remove the pan from the heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer into a clean pitcher or bowl to remove the solids.
Ladle the mulled wine into mugs and add an orange slice to each one before serving.
Prepare the potion a few hours ahead and reheat it gently on the stove to let the berry and spice flavors blend further. Taste and add a little more sugar if your wine tastes especially dry. Skip the star anise if you prefer a milder spice note.
