Poisoned Caramel Apple Tartlets
Course Dessert
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Small Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 4 pre-made mini tartlet shells
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 3/4 cup store-bought caramel sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon green food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 350 degrees and place the tartlet shells on a baking sheet.
  • Core the apples and cut them into thin slices, then toss the slices with the cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
  • Warm the caramel sauce in a small saucepan over low heat and stir in the green food coloring until the color is even.
  • Arrange the apple slices inside the tartlet shells, slightly overlapping them.
  • Spoon the colored caramel over the apples so it coats the fruit and fills the shells.
  • Sprinkle the chopped pecans on top of each tartlet.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the shells are lightly golden and the apples have softened.

Notes

Let the tartlets cool for a few minutes before moving them so the caramel sets enough to hold its shape. If you want a deeper color, add a tiny extra drop of food coloring to the caramel before spooning it on. Leftovers keep in the fridge for one day and taste best when brought back to room temperature rather than reheated.
