Pumpkin-Shaped Sausage Cheese Ball
Course Appetizer
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces ground sausage
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 8 pretzel sticks

Instructions

  • Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain the fat and let the sausage cool to room temperature.
  • Place the cooled sausage in a mixing bowl with the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and paprika. Stir until the ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and roll each into a ball. Use your fingers or a toothpick to create light vertical ridges around each ball to suggest a pumpkin shape.
  • Push one pretzel stick into the top of each ball to act as a stem. Place the finished pumpkins on a plate.
  • Refrigerate the cheese balls for at least 30 minutes before serving so they firm up and keep their shape.

Notes

Chill the mixture longer if your kitchen is warm so the balls do not soften while you add the ridges. Use mild or sharp cheddar depending on how bold you want the flavor. Leftovers store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days and can be served cold.
