Skeleton Bone Cheese Straws

Cuisine American
Baking sheet
Parchment paper
Rolling pin
Pastry brush
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Heat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the top half.
Fold the bottom half of the pastry over the cheese and press gently to seal. Sprinkle the garlic powder across the surface.
Cut the folded pastry into 8 strips. Twist each strip gently and shape the ends wider to resemble bone knobs.
Place the shaped straws on the baking sheet. Brush each one with the beaten egg and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden and crisp. Let them cool a few minutes before serving.
Twist the strips loosely so the bone shape stays clear after baking. If the pastry warms too much while shaping, chill it for five minutes before the egg wash. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature and reheat briefly in a 350°F oven to restore crispness.
