Spiced Pear and Cardamom Gin Punch
Course Drink
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Pitcher
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Mixing spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe pears, peeled and diced
  • 8 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 2 cups pear juice
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup gin
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 cups sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • Pear slices for garnish
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions

  • Place the diced pears, crushed cardamom pods, pear juice, honey, and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat and cook for 10 minutes to release the flavors.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard the solids and let the liquid cool to room temperature.
  • Stir the gin and lemon juice into the cooled pear base until fully combined.
  • Just before serving, add the sparkling water and stir gently. Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the punch over the ice.
  • Garnish each glass with a fresh pear slice and a cinnamon stick.

Notes

Make the pear and spice base a few hours ahead and keep it in the fridge so the cardamom has time to deepen. Taste the mixture before adding the sparkling water and adjust the honey if you prefer it less sweet. Skip the sparkling water and serve the punch warm in mugs for a cozy option on cooler nights.
