Spiderweb Bagels with Cream Cheese
Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Toaster
  • Mixing bowl
  • Zip-top bag
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 4 plain bagels
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened and divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon black food coloring
  • 4 black olives

Instructions

  • Split each bagel in half and toast until golden and crisp.
  • In a small bowl, mix 2 ounces of the cream cheese with the black food coloring until evenly tinted.
  • Spread the remaining 6 ounces of plain cream cheese evenly over the eight bagel halves.
  • Spoon the black cream cheese into a zip-top bag, snip off one corner, and pipe thin concentric circles on each bagel half. Drag a toothpick from the center outward in several places to form a web design.
  • Slice each black olive in half lengthwise. Place one half in the center of each web to form the spider body and cut the other half into thin strips for legs. Arrange the legs around the body.

Notes

Pipe the black cream cheese lines while the plain layer is still soft so the web design holds without cracking. If the black mixture feels too thick to pipe, stir in a teaspoon of milk. These bagels taste best fresh but can be assembled a few hours ahead and covered until serving.
