Spiderweb Oatmeal Bowls with Black Sesame Seeds
Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
Medium saucepan
Mixing spoon
Serving bowls
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 4 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 4 tablespoons black sesame seeds
Combine the rolled oats, milk, cinnamon, and salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring often.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the maple syrup until fully mixed. Let the oatmeal sit for 2 minutes so it thickens slightly.
Divide the oatmeal evenly among four bowls. Spoon the Greek yogurt into the center of each bowl in a small circle, then add three more circles around it to form rings.
Drag a toothpick or knife through the yogurt rings from the center outward in several places to create the spiderweb pattern. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of black sesame seeds over each bowl.
Make the yogurt rings a little thicker so the web lines stay clear when you drag the toothpick. If the oatmeal thickens too much while sitting, stir in a splash of warm milk before adding the yogurt. The black sesame seeds can be sprinkled just before serving so they stay crisp.
