Witch Finger Breadsticks with Marinara Sauce

Cuisine American
Mixing bowl
Baking sheet
Pastry brush
- 1 pound pizza dough
- 4 drops green food coloring
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 20 whole almonds
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup marinara sauce
Place the pizza dough in a bowl and knead in the green food coloring until the color is even throughout.
Divide the dough into 20 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin finger shape about 5 inches long.
Press one almond firmly into the tip of each finger to create a fingernail. Use a knife to score two or three lines across the middle of each finger for knuckles.
Beat the egg with the water. Brush the egg wash over each breadstick, then sprinkle evenly with oregano and sea salt.
Place the breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 to 15 minutes until lightly golden.
Warm the marinara sauce and serve it alongside the breadsticks for dipping.
Score the knuckles lightly before baking so they stay visible after the dough rises. If the almonds loosen during baking, press them back in while the breadsticks are still warm. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for one day and reheated briefly in a 300-degree oven to restore crispness.
