Crispy Sesame Chicken Wings with Scallions
Course Appetizer
Cuisine Asian
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Large bowl
  • Small bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings, split at joints
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced
  • Salt and black pepper

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with foil. Toss the chicken wings with vegetable oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  • Spread the wings in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 40 minutes, turning once halfway through, until the skin is golden and crisp.
  • While the wings bake, stir together the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a small bowl to make the glaze.
  • Remove the wings from the oven and transfer them to a clean large bowl. Pour the glaze over the hot wings and toss until fully coated.
  • Sprinkle the sesame seeds and sliced scallions over the wings and toss once more before transferring to a serving platter.

Notes

Pack the wings in a single layer in a shallow container and add the scallions just before leaving so they stay bright. If you need to reheat at the potluck, a quick 5-minute stint under a broiler restores crispness without drying the meat. Reduce the honey slightly if you prefer a less sweet glaze.
