Graveyard Layered Taco Dip with Tortilla Chips
Course Appetizer
Cuisine Mexican
Mixing bowl
Shallow serving dish
Knife
- 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup guacamole
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup salsa
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
- 6 small flour tortillas
- Tortilla chips for serving
Stir the refried beans and taco seasoning together in a bowl until evenly mixed. Spread this mixture across the bottom of a shallow serving dish to form the first layer.
Spread the sour cream evenly over the bean layer. Follow with the guacamole spread in an even layer on top of the sour cream.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the guacamole. Spoon the salsa across the cheese layer and scatter the sliced black olives on top.
Cut each flour tortilla into three or four rectangles roughly the size of small tombstones. Press the rectangles upright into the top of the dip so they stand like grave markers.
Arrange tortilla chips around the edge of the dish or in a separate bowl for scooping.
Press the tortilla tombstones in just before serving so they stay crisp. If you need to prepare ahead, assemble the layers up to the cheese step and add the salsa, olives, and tortilla pieces right before guests arrive. Swap the cheddar for a Mexican blend if you prefer a milder cheese flavor.
