Spiderweb Seven Layer Dip with Tortilla Chips
Course Appetizer
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • Shallow serving dish
  • zip-top bag
  • spoon
  • toothpick

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) refried beans
  • 1 cup guacamole
  • 1 cup sour cream, divided
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mild salsa
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  • Spread the refried beans evenly across the bottom of a shallow serving dish to create the first layer.
  • Spoon the guacamole over the beans and smooth it into an even layer.
  • Mix 3/4 cup of the sour cream with the shredded cheddar cheese, then spread this mixture over the guacamole.
  • Pour the salsa over the cheese layer and spread it gently to cover.
  • Place the remaining 1/4 cup sour cream into a small zip-top bag, snip off one corner, and pipe concentric circles on top of the salsa.
  • Use a toothpick to drag lines from the center outward through the circles to form a spiderweb pattern.
  • Scatter the sliced black olives and green onions over the web as a final topping.
  • Serve right away with tortilla chips on the side.

Notes

Pipe the sour cream circles slowly so the web stays neat. If you make the dip ahead, add the sour cream web and olives just before serving to keep the pattern clear. Mild salsa and cheddar keep the flavor familiar for kids, but you can swap in a spicier salsa for adults.
